When pain becomes words
When pain becomes words
It claws and it screams
because coming out of hiding seems way too extreme
When pain becomes words
Jaws tingle and tremble
Stomachs twist and become mingled
“this is” because for not much longer
the pain will have to hunger
When pain becomes words
Our eyes fill with salty tears
Our cheeks become blotchy and red
The storm within us roars
and our core temperature starts to soar
But when pain becomes words
Our hearts begin to open
and our lungs can take deep breaths
Our brains can take a step outside of those prison bars
Because we now aren’t the only ones
Holding our scars
No more are we invisible and even
if still misunderstood
We finally gave care and a name
to the pain that felt so much shame
A voice is handed to us and now we can say
Pain you are worthy, you are known, you are wise and you are seen
Pain you deserve to be loved
because you have been a part of me for so long
Pain thank you for thinking you were doing your best by hiding behind false smiles
But when pain becomes words, pain becomes like clay in our makers hands
Able to be molded and sculpted
Able to bloom and to fly
Able to love and to laugh
And able to finally
for once
be free
